Victoria Police - Traffic Management Unit (TMU)

Sedans - Holden Commodore & Suburu Impreza WRX

The Traffic Management Unit's main roles are traffic law enforcement and road safety. This unit have also been known as the Traffic Operations Group in recent years. This page consists of vehicles in the standard Victoria Police markings - for SMART (Special Mobile Anti Road Toll) cars in SMART car livery, see the SMART car page here.

In the mid to late 1990's, Police organisations decided to trial cars other than Australian made Ford and Holden models. Regarded as a ram-raider's vehicle of choice, the Subaru Impreza WRX also became a vehicle used by Police, primarily in traffic roles. The WRX was trialled and evaluated in Victoria and NSW.

As can be seen in these January 2002, the Victoria Police's TMU decided to continue to use the vehicles, photographed outside the City Patrol Group's Melbourne CBD base.

Photo 1 & 2 - A Holden Commodore TMU sedan allocated to Melton Police is photographed while passing the Fire Station. In the last photo, a traffic stop has just been completed a few kilometres from Melton by the same vehicle.
