Victoria Police - Divisional Vans Page 2

December 2002 Visit

This page shows General Duties Divisional Vans use with the Victoria Police that were taken during my December 2002 visit.

Ford Divisional Van behind Brunswick Police station with General Duties Sedans. This station is fast becoming a must-visit point for me when in Melbourne and was my first Police photo location on this visit.

This unusual photo series was taken from a tram near Eastern Hill Fire Station.  I could have decided only to place the last photo on the site but there is a story and 2 other images that lead to the final shot.

I was on a route 109 tram on my way to have a look at the Metropolitan Fire Brigade's Training Academy at Abbotsford. When the tram pulled up at some traffic lights, I noticed directly opposite me a Divisional Van then noticed that 2 Police Officers were talking to a male.

With people in the tram looking on, I grabbed my camera out of my bag and turned it on and from where I was standing in the tram, I thought I had a good shot (mainly of the van but the Police in the shot was a bonus) until the guy in the blue shirt walked into frame as I pressed the shutter (photo 1). Quickly realizing that the male in the blue shirt had made it into shot (albeit after taking the photo), I took photo 2, mainly for the van shot. Then as the tram was going to move shortly, I moved about a metre to my left and obtained photo 3 which shows the Police Officers interviewing the male for an unknown reason and the whole van.

In similar circumstances to the previous photo, I obtained this photo of a Divisional Van in Richmond.

Although not a Divisional Van in the true sense of the word, the rear of this vehicle certainly looks like it can do the work of one! This photo was taken outside Flinders Street Railway Station.
