| The Traffic Management Unit's main roles are traffic law enforcement and road safety.
This
unit have also been known as the Traffic Operations Group in recent years.
This page consists of vehicles in the SMART (Special Mobile Anti Road
Toll) cars in SMART car livery which is meant to be a very visible
deterrent for traffic offences. The SMART car concept commenced operation
for a trial period just prior to Christmas 2001 with 12 vehicles in a
special livery. This vehicle was photographed outside Broadmeadows Police
Station in December 2002.
| Note in these photos the use of the
words "Highway Patrol" which is more commonly associated
with Police in NSW. Also note that the vehicle has blue Victorian
number plates in lieu of the standard orange plates for Victorian
Government vehicles.
It is also interesting to note the use of the large Victoria
Police logos - this has been missing from most vehicles since the
introduction of National Standard Police Markings. Also interesting
is the use of orange striping in a similar colour to that used
formerly on all NSW Police vehicles that is now being phased out and
making way for the national standard.
